Anemone

Anemone coronaria is widely grown for its decorative flowers. There are approximately 150 species of Anemone. These flowers are also commonly called “windflowers”, and this second name is derived from the Greek word which means “the wind’s daughter”.The Anemone can be red, blue, purple or white. This is my red.      .        .             .  Photo © Daniela Serra – All Rights Reserved

Black flowers

There are flowers that have the color of the night … as this pansy  but also cosmos, dahlias, hellebores, lilys, tulips… Black flowers are mysterious and elegant. In reality there are no truly black flowers – most are very dark shades of purple or red.  They symbolise power, mystery, elegance, farewell and goodbye.    .    Photo © Daniela Serra – All Rights Reserved

Zantedeschia

One of my favorite flowers is the Zantedeschia commonly known in Italy as Calla. Very common in the gardens of the old houses of my island, Sardinia (Italy), is a flower that retains the charm of simplicity and elegance.Zantedeschia are relatively hardy plants and may be considered two groups: a group with large white flowers (arum lilies) and a group with white-spotted leaves and flowers in many colours (calla lilies), such as yellow, orange, pink and purple.Zantedeschia has often been used in paintings it was a favourite subject of the painter Georgia O’Keeffe.Photo © Daniela Serra 2016 – All Rights Reserved
