Santorini : The ChurchesSantorini’s churches are defined by anonymous vernacular architecture . The island has over 600 churches and chapels. These are simple, square edifices, mostly done in a sparse white. Without any particular ornamentation. Churches forman integral part of the island architecture with different typologies and influences evident. The churches and the chapels of Oia are white and blue domed in general . Aquilegia.

Aquilegia ( columbine) is a genus of about 60-70 species of perennial plants . The name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals which resemble an eagle’s claw. The festival of Sant’Efisio takes place every year on 1st May and is a magical celebration of faith and folklore, the sacred and the profane. A festival rich in colours, costumes, tradition ; the long procession: 3500 inhabitants of the island dressed in traditional costumes from every town and village and more than 200 riders on horseback.On the day of the festival people from all over the island gather together in Cagliari to take part in the procession.
