Violets

In the language of flowers, it has had various symbolic meanings. Its color may indicate the love of truth or, conversely, the truth of love. In keeping with the latter, it is said that the tomb of the Roman tyrant Nero was decorated in the spring with violets by unknown persons who had secretly admired or loved him. Violets were often used as symbols of fasting or mourning. Source : http://www.americanvioletsociety.org/HistoryTraditions/Traditions.htmPhoto © Daniela Serra 2016 – All Rights Reserved

Archaeological Sardinia (Italy)

Sardinia’s Nuraghic monuments, dolmen, menhir, domus de janas, giants’ tombs, all striking testimonials to an ancient megalithic culture, are believed to be surrounded by strong magnetic energy which influences and improves the wellbeing of body and soul. Even Aristotle reported that in Sardinia lying close to a Tomb of the Giants was a way to get rid of nightmares and obsessions. The necropolis of Sant’Andrea Priu is an #archaeological site located on the south side of the fertile plain of Saint Lucia, in the municipality of Bonorva, #Sardinia. The complex, one of the most important of the island, is composed of twenty domus de janas; one of them with its eighteen rooms appears to be one of the largest hypogean tombs of the Mediterranean basin. Chronologically, the complex is dated 3500–2900 BC. In the necropolis lies this Dolmen very particular form of bull ..http://www.sardegnaturismo.it/en/article/stones-and-water–ancient-sources-wellnessPhoto © Daniela Serra 2016 – All Rights Reserved

Pisa (Italy).Monumental Cemetery

The Piazza dei Miracoli , in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, recognized as an important center of European medieval art and one of the finest architectural complexes in the world. The square is dominated by four great religious edifices: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Campanile, and the Monumental Cemetery founded in 1277.The structure of the Cemetery represents an oblong cloister in flowery “Gothic” style, with the aim of accommodating the sarcophagi from the Roman period, which until then were scattered around the Cathedral and reused as illustrious Pisans’ burials. The building had to be a “large and decent, secluded and closed”; the result is one of the oldest medieval Christian architectures, destined to cult of the dead.In 1987, the whole square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.http://www.leaningtower-ofpisa.com/monumental-cemetery-of-pisa/Photo © Daniela Serra 2016 – All Rights Reserved

Cat Eyes by Adriano

Cats have some of the most unique eyes in the animal world. Instead of having circular pupils like humans, the black parts in the centres of their eyes are vertical which can adapt quickly and can open and close like the aperture of a camera. Pupil shape and size determines how much light gets to the eyes and is then translated by the brain into a picture of the world around us. When it’s dark out, pupils expand to let in more light and enhance our vision, but when it’s bright out, our pupils get smaller to prevent overstimulation.

David by Michelangelo, hand detail

David was sculpted in marble, it’s over life-size, and that it represents the biblical figure of David, who killed the giant Goliath with a stone from his slingshot. David is tall, exactly 14 feet and 3 inches high and was left-handed.His right hand is disproportionately large compared to the body because in the Middle Ages, David was commonly said to be strong of hand. #adriano
